The other day a Realtor asked me how the whole networking thing is working for me…… I said great. She said not so great for her, because she only got 2 deals from networking…… I responded “maybe you need to re-evaluate how you assess if networking is working or not… maybe it is not about you and how you benefit, but about others and how many people you can help.”
My REVERSE NETWORKING is all about promoting others rather than myself….. If I say I am the best “whatever”, you discount it because I am saying it…… The key is to make it easy for others to say good things about me.
The 2 biggest networking (I like the term CONNECTING better) mistakes is being self centered and only doing it when you need to because you are desparate for a job or a sale. And secondly….. Not following up…… To go from average to outstanding in your career, just FOLLOW UP.
The only thing better than a large quantity network like my 5000 facebook friends or 1000 LinkedIn friends is a QUALITY network. It is all about others, just like we were taught in the GOLDEN RULE!
